when you check wires for continuity is it not habit to quickly check them to ground? would have saved a lot of time diagnosing

I had a similar thing happen to me when I replaced my ignition switch. The brand new part was total bunk. I assumed it was a customer scam - as in, they bought a new one n brought their old one back pretending it wasn't the issue. I can't remember who the manufacturer was. But I suggested to the store that they should probably test returned parts

Dan, I enjoyed the video. Coincidentally, I just saw Ivan at PHAD diagnose an intermittent charging problem on a newer car that was caused by a damaged terminal. I'm a retired engineering tech, and during my career I saw connector manufacturer's go to terminals that are much more fragile. Couple that with automotive style connectors which are much more intricate and these types of intermittent problems are going to appear more often. Perhaps checking connector integrity as well as power and grounds should become a standard diagnostic procedure. Thoughts?

You missing 1 point, the bearing cap of the camshaft must also be glued, otherwise you will also lose oil pressure for the vanos, and 9 out of 10 mechanics forget this because the factory does not indicate it

when ive scoped the control for ignition coils in the past ive only seen a 0-5v square wave and not an ignition waveform. Why are you seeing an igniton waveform while scoping the coil control? regards Stu

Good video, but it's the second one I've watched where what I'm finding the most difficult part seems to be edited out. With my '99 E39, I can only say that the swing arm isn't so easy to get over the integral link and inside swing-arm/control-arm bolts in place. Yes, I say bolts because I was finding no way to get the angle right without dropping the arm entirely. I felt I was going to have to fight that inner/front nut with the holding flange on it. But that's not even my fight yet. It is just trying to get the arm to fit in place to the extent that I can pass the bolt all the way through. Things are just a bit cockeyed, and prying against aluminum too much has me cautious. I'm now wondering if I can change the angle enough to make it fit by turning that cam bolt a bit since that bolt is in place. I guess I'll try that next. That said, I think I'd go with the vise-grip hold technique next time and deal with the little bit of extra fight in replacing the ball-joint. Or maybe somehow over the years the swing-arm got bent? It sure isn't behaving in the same way as I see in multiple videos. Live and learn.

I was sitting on the edge of my seat when you said the first step was to drain and refill the system😬😬😬😬With intermittent problems I usually try to do as little as possible so the problem doesn’t disappear before I see it. Good one Dan! The only thing I would have done more would be to test the pin drag on each of those pins in the connector to make sure they weren’t loose from a bad assembly procedure at the factory

What is the lesson here? If you are stuck: search for anything that could help you allong. Pay attention to details even if you think it does not matter.

You have helped me identify the mechanisms I hear some whirring sound when coming to a stop in eco mode, comfort mode, sometimes sport. I heard it first on a highway merge. After 1 week I heard every time coming to a stop. It sounds hydraulic/mechanical. Perhaps something went out. I got not lights but getting sometimes higher dsg oil temps.

Im getting the top to go up 80% and then error code cowl pannel unlocked we replaced that microswitch and still shot... and we replaced the locking mechanism still no go... what are your suggestions ? Been at this for a long time out $1000 already ...what shoudl my next move be is this wiring?

I am from Norway and we call it Suzuki Swift. I have a 2013 model and call it Taylor :) I am pretty happy with it.

there are only about 5 facets to electrical diagnosis. if all 6 of those shops cant figure that car out, they can figoure out any car and would lose all that work.

I have intermittent transmission shifting problems after my 2013 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI warms up but not when first starting up. It shifts perfectly for about 10 minutes and then doesn't shift above 1st or go into reverse. It's a 02E DSG transmission with error codes po70766 solenoid 4 open or short to ground and p0782 2-3 shift. Which components should check for this intermittent problem? Possible bad ground connection somewhere? 79 K miles on odometer
